Lucknow: Three-time Samajwadi Party MLA Vijay Mishra joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alleging that he was cheated by the 'anti-Brahmin' leadership of the Akhilesh Yadav-led party.
Mishra had turned a rebel after he was denied ticket from his traditional Gyanpur seat and had announced that he will contest as an independent before deciding to go with Mayawati. The Samajwadi Party has named former MP Ram Rati Bind as its candidate from the seat.
On the occasion of his formal entry into the BSP, Mishra said that Brahmins are insulted in the Samajwadi Party.
He went on to claim that Samajwadi Party will be wiped out in the Purvanchal region.
Mishra, who is known as a strongman in the area and had contested from jail in the past, has vowed revenge on the SP and announced that he will work to ensure the defeat of party candidates in Bhadohi, Sonebhadra, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Kaushambi, Jaunpur and Allahabad.
He has also claimed that he faced a threat to his life from SP leaders Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav as he knew "many secrets" of Ram Gopal and feared that he could be "eliminated".
Mishra said his wife, Ramlali Misra, who is MLC from Mirzapur-Sonebhadra has informed the President, the Prime Minister and the Election Commission about the threat to his life.
He said his wife has not yet resigned from the SP. However, the party is free to expel her if it wants.
