Muzaffarnagar: Authorities on Friday sealed a large meat processing plant at Kairana town in Shamli district after finding "irregularities" during checking.
As per circle officer Bhushan Verma, a team of district officials led by sub-divisional magistrate Vijay Prakash conducted the checking at Meem Agro Foods Pvt Ltd on Friday and sealed it.
Meanwhile, several meat shops which were allegedly running without licenses were closed down in Thana Bhawan, Jalalabad and Shamli towns on Thursday.
In Muzaffarnagar district, several such shops were shut down in Budhana, Khatoli, Shahpur and Charthawal towns.
Slaughterhouses and meat shops allegedly running illegally have been closed down across Uttar Pradesh after the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party government.
In keeping with the BJP's manifesto, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on March 22 directed police officials to prepare an action plan for closure of slaughterhouses across the state.
He also ordered a blanket ban on smuggling of cows and said zero tolerance would be exercised in this regard.
Official sources did not specify the type of slaughterhouses which will be shut.
However, the BJP manifesto had said that all the illegal slaughterhouses would be closed and there would be a blanket ban on all the mechanised slaughterhouses.
The BJP document had observed that due to cow smuggling, dairy-based industries have failed to flourish.
