India has got the dubious distinction of having the highest bribery rate in the Asia Pacific.

Meerut: It's really shameful when those who are responsible for protecting the law, break it.

In one such incident, sub inspector Amrita Singh Yadav was arrested by anti-corruption organisation of UP Police for taking bribe at Meerut.

An FIR has been registered against her and she has been to jail.

UP Police's Twitter handle re-tweeted a post by cop Rahul Srivastav in which Yadav is seen covering her face.

To be noted is the fact that India has got the dubious distinction of having the highest bribery rate in Asia Pacific, with a survey showing that more than two-thirds of Indians had to pay 'tea money' or fork out other forms of bribe to get public services.

The survey, conducted by international anti-graft rights group Transparency International, had found 69 percent in India as saying they had to pay a bribe, followed by 65 percent in Vietnam.

China was much lower at 26 percent while the same for Pakistan was 40 percent.

Also, as per the survey which was published in March this year, police topped the chart with at 85 percent calling them corrupt.

Police was followed by the government officials (84 percent), business executives (79 percent), local councillors (78 percent) and MPs (76 percent) as the five most corrupt categories, while tax officials came at sixth place (74 percent) and religious leaders at the seventh.
