Dehradun: Bodies of 22 pilgrims, who died in a bus accident in Uttarkashi on Tuesday, were airlifted to Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday by a special aircraft.
The plane also carried six injured passengers, under the supervision of a medical team.
The group from Indore had gone on an annual 'Chaar Dhaam Yatra' when the bus plunged into a deep gorge at Nalupani near Gangotri.
Twenty four persons had perished in the accident that included a driver and a conductor belonging to Uttarakhand.
Fifteen of the dead were from Indore, while seven were from Dhaar district.
The bodies were initially set to be taken on a special coach of a train but at the last minute, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan ordered that a special Air India plane be requisitioned to ferry the bodies back.
