DNA: Could Mahatma Gandhi have saved Bhagat Singh?

People in our country often ask this question that why did Mahatma Gandhi not save the life of Bhagat Singh by talking to the Britishers? Now the question is whether Mahatma Gandhi could have saved Bhagat Singh and if he could, why didn't he?
