Chennai, Aug 24: Even as forest brigand Veerappan is insisting on the release of five Tamil extremists for freeing Kannada actor Rajkumar and three others, a designated court trying TADA cases on Thursday extended till Sept 13 the remand of one of the extremists as he was not willing to come out on bail. Second Additional Designated Judge M. Chinnapandi extended the remand of Venkatesan alias ‘Radio’ Venkatesh, when he was produced before him along with eight other accused in the cases relating to Villupuram bomb blast and Kullanchavadi police station attack. Following the demand of Veerappan to release the five Tamil extremists, the Tamil Nadu government had dropped some of the criminal charges against them. But the charges against Venkatesan for offences under the Indian Penal Code sections still stand. Hence, he was brought to the court for extension of remand. Venkatesan said he insisted on dropping of all cases pending against him unconditionally by the state government. Venkatesan and the other four Tamil extremists were insisting on dropping of all cases against them and were ready to go to the forest to meet Veerappan as soon as the cases were dropped, he added. —UNI
