Kolkata: The Kolkata police arrested a man in city's Tiljala area in West Bengal on charges of selling fake eggs on Friday.

A woman Anita Kumar lodged a complaint near Kareya Police Station area after which the police arrested the egg-seller from Tiljala area and seized all eggs from his possession. The eggs have been sent for testing. 


The accused has been identified as Mohammed Shamin Ansari, who was detained on Saturday morning for allegedly selling plastic eggs. 


The wholesale market from where the eggs were bought was also raided by food safety officials led by Member, Mayor in Council Atin Ghosh.


"I have heard about plastic eggs but never thought of seeing them in the city. We are taking a very cautious step and I have asked my officers to run a check at market places and poultry farms," Ghosh was quoted as saying.
