Darjeeling: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung, who has been leading the protests in Darjeeling for a separate statehood, has not been arrested.

Earlier, a media report had stated that West Bengal Police had arrested Gurung in connection with recent violence in the hills.

However, according to the latest information, Gurung has not been arrested.

Meanwhile, in a bid to step up their stir for a separate state in the Darjeeling Hills, the GJM leaders on Thursday decided to quit the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) tomorrow.

"Today we have decided to resign from the GTA. The resignations will be submitted to the principal secretary of GTA," GJM general secretary Roshan Giri told PTI.

The report further stated that GJM supremo Bimal Gurung, who is in hiding, will also put in his papers.

He said the GTA has been turned into a "farce" by the West Bengal government and the GJM and the people of the hills will fight for the single agenda of a separate Gorkhaland.
