Kolkata: A minor fire broke out near a boarding gate at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here on Thursday but was put out immediately, an airport official said.
"The operations at the airport were not affected and no one was injured due to the fire that broke out at 4.15 pm in one of the UPS rooms near boarding gate number 12," Airport Director Atul Dikshit said in a press release.
"The fire was put out immediately and smoke exhausts used to remove smoke from the building," he said.
The official said the International Security Hold Area at the airport was immediately evacuated as a precaution while boarding continued through the remote boarding gates after the incident.
"Primary investigation shows the fire may have been caused by damage to a capacitor in one of the air-conditioning machines in the room," the official said.
