He was hanged at Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur along with his accomplice Sharif Shahedul alias Bipul at 10.01 p.m, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told BDNews24.

His other accomplice Delwar Hossain Ripon was executed in Sylhet jail, the Minister said.

They went to the gallows for killing three in a grenade attack on the then British High Commissioner Anwar Choudhury in Sylhet in 2004.

Hannan was said to be the mastermind of 13 terrorist attacks, including an attempt on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's life, perpetrated by the banned militant group HuJI.

He also faced trial for planting a bomb made with 76 kg of explosives near the venue of a public rally addressed by her at Kotalipara in 2000.

A Sylhet court on December 23, 2008 sentenced Hannan and his aides Ripon and Bipul to death and two others to life-time imprisonment for their role.
