Brussels: President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani on Thursday outrightly denied allegations levelled by British Prime Minister Theresa May that the EU was meddling in the election with damaging leaks about Brexit.
"No one is trying to influence the outcome of the election campaign in the United Kingdom," Tajani said, The Guardian reports.
In an aggressive speech outside the Downing Street, British Prime Minister Theresa May had accused European Union politicians and officials of trying to influence the outcome of United Kingdom`s general elections.
May stated that Britain would not allow the "bureaucrats of Brussels run over us" and urged voters to "give me your backing to fight for Britain."
Accusing EU officials of deliberately leaking misleading accounts of Brexit talks so as to adversely impact the outcome of U.K. elections, May launched a stinging attack on Brussels after a German newspaper reported about the differences between her and the European commission president Jean-Claude during a Downing Street dinner last week.
