Kremlin says Trump allegedly divulging secrets `nonsense, not an issue`

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday the issue of US President Donald Trump allegedly divulging state secrets to Russia is not worth confirming or denying, calling it "nonsense."

Moscow: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday the issue of US President Donald Trump allegedly divulging state secrets to Russia is not worth confirming or denying, calling it "nonsense."

"For us it is not an issue, it`s more nonsense," Peskov said when asked about the Washington Post report that Trump shared highly classified information during a meeting last week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We want nothing to do with this nonsense," he said. "It`s not an issue for confirming or denying, it`s complete nonsense," Peskov added.

Citing unnamed officials, the Monday report said Trump went off script during a meeting with Lavrov and Russian envoy to Washington Sergei Kislyak and described details about an Islamic State terror threat related to the use of laptop computers on airplanes.

Trump`s National Security Advisor HR McMaster denied the incident happened, but the president on Tuesday defended himself.

Trump on Twitter insisted he had the "absolute right" to share information with Russia, adding that he was motivated by "humanitarian reasons".
