Earthquake of magnitude 5.1 hits Vietnam, J&K
A strong intensity earthquake on Thursday hit 111 km northeast of Vietnam`s Thang and Jammu and Kashmir in the early morning hours.
NEW DELHI: A strong intensity earthquake on Thursday hit 111 km northeast of Vietnam's Thang and Jammu and Kashmir in the early morning hours.
The quake was estimated to measure 5.1 on the Richter scale.
Earlier on Wednesday, a strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck Uttarakhand around 8:50 pm. Tremors were felt in Delhi and other areas across northern India.
As per IMD, the epicentre of the earthquake was Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag, with a Magnitude of 5.5 and depth of 30 km.
"The epicentre is in Uttarakhand, the tremors felt in Delhi and NCR are the impulses," an official at Centre for Seismology, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
EMSC located the epicentre between the hill shrine of Kedarnath and the town of Pipalkoti in Uttarakhand.
Mild tremors were also felt in Dehradun, Patiala and Chandigarh.
This was the second earthquake in Uttarakhand within a span of 24 hours. On Tuesday, a moderate intensity earthquake of 3.3 magnitudes was reported in the state.
