As per Guwahati Plus, Congress MLAs have claimed that the outfit Chopra was wearing was inappropriate and immodest. Several members of the Congress party have also demanded that she be removed as the brand ambassador for Assam Tourism, alleging that the actress had brought a bad name to the culture of the state.

Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was quoted as saying by TIME8, “The government should preserve the respect of the Assamese society. The frock is not an Assamese attire and the calendar pictures were not sober at all. The government could have used the traditional mekhela sador."

However, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) rebutted the Congress leaders and asked whether the authorities should use the photos of Priyanka Gandhi instead of Priyanka Chopra, Guwahati Plus reported.

The calendar was made to promote Assam internationally. It has also been sent to prominent international tour operators and dignitaries. Priyanka Chopra is an international figure and her presentation in the calendar has not diminished Assam’s culture in any way," he was further quoted as saying by the media house.

On the other hand, Tourism Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was quoted as asking by TIME8 if foreigners in Assam will wear ‘dhoti’ while donning a ‘japi’ and clicking photos. “We wear ‘japi’ wearing ‘long pant-shirt’ on stages,” he said.
