As far as its USP, the extended wheelbase is concerned, the new E-Class offers more than 200mm of extra wheelbase compared to the previous gen model. It will simply result in tonnes of rear cabin space. To put things into perspective, it will offer S-Class-like rear cabin space for E-Class money!

Mechanically, unlike the outgoing model, which had three powertrain options, the 2017 E-Class long-wheelbase will offer a diesel and a petrol engine option. However, both the engines are carried forward from the previous model. The diesel is the 3.0-litre V6 (258PS/620Nm), while the petrol is a 2.0-litre motor (184PS/300Nm). Both the engines are coupled to a new nine-speed automatic transmission. The previous E-Class, in contrast, was offered with a seven-speed unit.

The new 2017 E-Class takes will go up against familiar rivals such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XF and the recently introduced Volvo S90. However, it will always have an added advantage of the extra legroom it offers as opposed to its rivals, but the prices for the same will be relatively higher too. While its competitors start in the vicinity of Rs 50 lakh, the base price of the new E-Class is likely to begin around Rs 60 lakh.
