Kentucky Helicopter Crash: 9 Killed In US Military Chopper Collision Near Fort Campbell

Two United States army helicopters crashed after a collision while on a training mission over Kentucky. As per a New York Times report, the incident occurred on Wednesday. As per reports, the helicopter crash has claimed lives of 9 officials. Earlier, governor Andy Beshear's fatalities in the accident are expected. Giving confirmation on the same, US military officials informed of the fatalities calling it a "truly tragic loss".

In his tweet earlier, the governor of Kentucky said, "We’ve got some tough news out of Fort Campbell, with early reports of a helicopter crash and fatalities are expected." He further added, "Please pray for all those affected." Presently, an investigation has been launched to look into the details of the crash.

The two helicopters involved in the crash are HH-60 Black Hawk in US Military's fleet. As per reports, the assault helicopters were from the 101 Airborne Division (army's only assault division) based in Fort Campbell. The HH-60 helicopters are versatile flying machines used by the military for various purposes including air assaults and medical evacuation.

As per reports, early on Thursday morning, there were calm winds, 10 miles of visibility, and fair weather in the Fort Campbell region. The temperature was 39 degrees. Fort Campbell is located on 105,000 acres that span sections of Montgomery and Stewart Counties in Tennessee, Trigg and Christian Counties in Kentucky.
