Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has said that the expulsion of Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner to Bangladesh is unfortunate and exposes the nation's foreign policy bankruptcy. Vice chairman of PPP Foreign Affairs Committee asked as to why the Pakistani High Commissioner failed to assess the mood of Bangladesh, demonstrated through public protests and repeated calls from the host government for the diplomat's withdrawal, and failed to communicate the same to Islamabad. “The High Commissioner in Dhaka should also be recalled for failing to keep the government fully informed. Missions, which cannot improve bilateral relations, should be closed instead of spending foreign exchange only to lose friends,” he said . Malik said that diplomats posted in the South Asian capitals need to be extra-cautious because of chronic frictions in the region. He also added that the foreign ministry needs to understand that foreign policy is not merely reacting to foreign developments. Pakistan had recalled its Deputy High Commissioner Irfan Raja from Bangladesh as he had sparked off a series of protests over his remarks about the atrocities committed during Bangladesh's 1971 war.
