First phase of Tehri Project to be completed by next year
The first phase of the mega 1000 mw Tehri Hydroelectric Project is expected to be completed by 2002, Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly was told on Tuesday.

Despite some minor irritants regarding the rehablitation of people living around the project site, the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by next year, Uttaranchal Power Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari told the house replying a question.
An amount of Rs 2819.73 crore has already been spent on the project, the minister said .
Replying to another question Koshiyari said that out of the total 2064 families living around the project, 2034 have already been rehabilitated.
However, there were still some problems regarding rehabilitation, but hoped they would be sorted out through negotiations.
On the share of Uttaranchal in the Tehri Project, Koshiyari said that the newly formed state would get 12 percent of the power as royalty since the project is situated in Uttaranchal only.
Centre will meet 75 per cent of the cost and Uttar? Pradesh 25 per cent, the minister said.

work on the Maneri-Bhali power project-II which would begin
very soon.
