The government on Saturday decided to observe December 24 as National Consumer Day every year to commemorate the presidential assent to the Consumer Protection Act, on this day in 1986. The observance of the National Consumer Day would be in addition to the celebration of the World Consumer Rights Day on March 15 every year, an official statement said in New Delhi. The decision has been taken to spread awareness among the people specially in rural areas about their consumer rights, the statement added. Bureau Report
