CBI has registered a case against the director and assistant station director of Doordarshan's Central Production Centre (CPC) in New Delhi and co-ordinator of its programme Sham-E-Kashmir for allegedly cheating the state exchequer of lakhs of rupees by fraudulently sanctioning fake and forged bills during 1998-99. The fir registered by the anti-corruption branch of CBI last Thursday named CPC Director R P Mathur, Assistant Station Director (CPC) S Z Fazil and Asgar Khan, Co-ordinator of Sham-E-Kashmir. The agency had on Friday raided the offices of these officials at Asiad village in New Delhi and claimed to have seized certain incriminating documents.
Mathur and Fazil entered into a criminal conspiracy with Khan and in pursuance of the said conspiracy these two CPC officials sanctioned and paid TA/DA, transport, boarding, lodging, bedding and costumes charges and co-ordinator fee amounting to Rs 8.90 lakh to khan on the basis of false, forged and fabricated bills, the fir alleged.
Co-ordinated by khan, Sham-E-Kashmir was produced by CPC at Doordarshan studio last year. Mathur, Fazil and Khan prepared fake bills and receipts and produced the same to CPC as genuine ones for claiming TA/DA and other charges mentioned above for 127 artists of the said programme knowing fully well that the bills/receipts were forged, it said.
