The movie is reportedly based on the life of Arun Gawli, a real-life Mumbai gangster-turned- politician.

Ashim Ahluwalia apparently wanted to narrate a story that communicates something ‘strong and poignant’.

According to Rampal, ‘the film does not side with anybody, it is not about glamourising someone but showing the realism of that world and bringing it out to people’

The film which also stars Aishwarya Rajesh was apparently shown to the man himself – Gawli and his family and they liked the movie.
