New Delhi, Sept 19: The Supreme Court today vacated its order directing status quo on the admissions of students in private unaided medical and dental colleges in Maharashtra as these institutions said they have agreed with the state to keep 25 per cent of the seats for management quota.
In view of the agreement, a bench comprising Justice S Rajendra Babu and Justice G P Mathur vacated the order passed on September 15 on the petitions filed by association of management of unaided private medical and dental colleges of the state challenging a Bombay High Court order rejecting their plea for 15 per cent management quota at higher fee.
The bench, which vacated the status quo on admission to medical and dental colleges in view of the subsequent developments, kept intact the status quo on admission to the engineering colleges of similar nature.
The minutes of the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister showed that the government agreed to keep 25 per cent of the seats of a private unaided college for the management quota.
It also recorded that Rs 25,000 as fees would be charged from candidates taking admissions for 25 per cent of the seats under the reserved category and Rs 1,50,000 for candidates in the 50 per cent of the seats open category.
It was also resolved that "except the 25 per cent management quota seats, all other seats will be filled from the common entrance test MH-CET. Management seats will be filled on the basis of Inter-SE merit out of students applying for management." Bureau Report
