Aligarh, July 15: Accusing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of "harassing and arm twisting her political opponents", the Rashtriya Lok Dal has said it would launch an agitation if the practice was not stopped immediately. Addressing a rally here last evening in protest against the arrest of district panchayat chief Tejveer Singh alias Guddu, RLD general secretary Anuradha Choudhary said "Mayawati's terror tactics have brought all the opposition parties in the state closer to each other.'

She said RLD chief Ajit Singh was now working towards removing all hurdles in the path of opposition unity in the state. The opposition in Uttar Pradesh was determined to ensure that the proposed no-confidence motion succeeds despite all the efforts of the ruling coalition, Choudhary said.

Tejveer Singh was arrested under the National Security Act. Later, he was named in a murder case. A case of embezzlement of funds has also been filed against him. There are reports that he may be stripped of the panchayat president's post.
