New Delhi: There may be many who would wish to buy a diesel car in the New Year, yet are confused which one to buy and which one to avoid.


Supreme Court order on December 16 had announced banning registration of diesel-run SUVs and cars having engine capacity above 2,000 cc in Delhi and National Capital Region till March 31 as part of a slew of measures to curb the alarming rise in pollution levels in the city.

The small car users need not worry. The worst hit cars will be:


1)Toyota Innova. Engine capacity– 2,494cc diesel


2) Toyota Fortuner. Engine options – 2,494cc diesel , 2,982cc diesel


3) Mahindra Scorpio. Engine options – 2,179cc diesel, 2,523cc diesel


4) Mahindra Bolero. Engine capacity – 2,523cc diesel


5) Mahindra XUV500. Engine capacity – 2,179cc diesel


German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz and Tata Motors-owned JLR, with their entire diesel model range powered by engines above 2,000 cc, will also be affected.


Delhi and Mumbai are the largest market for luxury vehicles in India, with Delhi leading the sale.
