New Delhi: It could be a big blow to the owners of large diesel vehicles, as well as to automobile industry in India, as National Green Tribunal is mulling a ban on large diesel cars in 11 more cities across the country.

The National Green Tribunal is scheduled to hear the matter related to air pollution in 11 cities across the country on Tuesday.

As per reports, those 11 cities which may see a ban on large diesel cars include Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad among others.

The automobile industry has criticized the proposal and has called the move “unscientific” and “ uncalled for”, saying the ban would create mass scale unemployment and loss of investment.

With the ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engines above 2,000 cc extended to Kerala, Japanese auto major Toyota had said that he is 're-looking' at its Indian operations.

Earlier this month, the Tribunal extended the ban in six cities in Kerala. Though Kerala High Court stayed the NGT order on new vehicles, but did not interfere with that covering old ones.
