Dhaka, Apr 10: Amid continued demonstrations across Bangladesh against the Iraq war, the Khaleda Zia government has said it will not support any interim administration in post-war Iraq that lacks approval from the United Nations. "Bangladesh will not support any interim administration in the post-war Iraq without united nation's approval," Foreign Minister Morshed Khan said here yesterday.
He said UN credential committee would decide who would run the interim administration. "And Dhaka would act as per the UN decision," he was quoted as saying by a newspaper.
He also said that the territorial integrity of Iraq should not be compromised while expressing shock and serious concern over the killing of innocent people including journalists, and called for restoration of law and order. Underlining the important role of UN in coming days, he observed that the world body is entering into a critical phase as far as reconstruction of Iraq is concerned.
Addressing senior bureaucrats here yesterday, Premier Khaleda Zia said, "We need to review possible impact and reaction of the war on our economy and monitor the situation."
She said "a task force headed by foreign minister is monitoring round the clock the Iraq situation and other matters having bearing on country's interests," stated a report. Meanwhile, a big anti-war demonstration is planned for Saturday where many parties including opposition Awami League are scheduled to take part. Besides, anti-war rallies are taking place everyday in the country since the war began.
Several thousand people have expressed desire to go to Iraq and fight the invading forces. Bureau Report
