Siliguri, July 23: The toy train of Darjeeling Himalayan railway, a major tourist attraction in the hills, would be suspended till September 5 following the large scale landslides earlier this month, Northern Frontier Railway sources said here today. The decision was taken after examining the narrow gauge track which was badly damaged by the landslides at different points, particularly between Sukna and Kurseong, the sources said.

The situation at sinking point before Tindharia was causing concern as about 100 feet of the track was hanging without any soil support, the sources said. The NF Railway was taking all measures to make the 80 km track between new Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling operative before the Durga Pujas, considered the peak tourist season, if there was no further damage to it during the last phase of the monsoon, the sources added.
