New Delhi: Had Maggi not been banned in India, Nestle India may have not realised that Maggi also induces fever--literally.
Maggi ''fever like never before'', tweeted Kunal Bahal, the CEO of online marketplace Snapdeal. He said that Snapdeal was witnessing 500 registrations per minute to buy Maggi noodles on the online platform.
Nestle India has tied up with Snapdeal to sell Maggi on the online platform, wherein the buyers will have to register to buy the noodles brand. Nestle's Maggi is also available in retail stores in states where it was not banned.
Maggi was banned in June by the food safety regulator after high lead content was found by the lab tests in India and had declared it " unsafe and hazaradous' for consumption.
The ban was most effective in eight states including Punjab, Orissa, Manipur, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. As per the company, it will take some time more for the brand to sell in these markets.
Later the noodles brand had passed tests by three government-accredited laboratories, as ordered by the Bombay High Court which in August had lifted ban on the instant noodles.
At present, Nestle India is manufacturing Maggi noodles at three locations - Nanjangud (Karnataka), Moga (Punjab) and Bicholim (Goa).
Nestle India plans to carry out intensified campaigns across various medium to overcome the impact on the Maggi brand by the whole controversy, particularly targeting at mothers.
