Shimla, Oct 07: The bikes vrooomed and the cars honked as the splutter of the metal tore the silent beauty of the chilly hills.
Oblivious to the sun-drenched golden morn, men were tinkering with their machines. It was the pre-event scrutiny day of the 5th Raid de Himalaya which will be flagged off from here today.
Time once again for action and fun, driving the high-speed machines on the world's highest and most treacherous point.
"This is my fourth rally, it is a test for machines and we are fully prepared," said Sarika Sahrawat, one of the two female participants in the raid.
This is just the second year of rallying for the 24-year old Sarika, who with her co-driver Norveena Patrick is also the only all-women team in the extreme car prototype section.

"The notion of women can't do it against men is totally wrong. I hope after seeing me, more women would take up to motorsports," said the Delhiite.

Sarika, whose initiation into top-speed driving came at the age of 16 when she would do "a lot of rash driving" on highways, quit her executive level post this year to concentrate on rallying.
