Kolkata, May 18: Domestic firms, facing challenges from the globalisation process, need to conform to the international standards and comply with the quality norms while upgrading skill of the labour class, Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma said today. While the Centre was taking steps to bring lakhs of workers under pension and other welfare schemes, the industry and labourers need to upgrade technology and skills to compete in the international market, Verma said. Speaking at the inauguration of a new building of the Zonal Training Institute (east zone) of National Academy for Training and Research in Social Security here, he said the firms should adopt new technologies, undertake business process reengineering and train workers to upgrade skills. He also stressed on the quality certifications like ISO 9001 to ensure conformity to international standards. Bureau Report
