Kathmandu, Sept 07: Japanese Viral B encephalitis has claimed lives of 69 people across the Kingdom of Nepal in the past four months, according to official sources. According to the epidemiology and disease control division here some 330 patients suffering from the disease had come for treatment at 15 different hospitals and health institutions across the country in this season.

The Japanese encephalitis is spread through culex species of mosquito from infected animals and birds. The most affected parts are terai and inner terai of West Nepal and the disease spreads most during rainy season.

Available statistics show that altogether 2,602 Nepalese people have died of the disease since 1993, the national news agency said quoting epidemiology and disease control division.
