New Delhi: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said the government will work to ensure all the villages in the country have electricity within two years.


Presenting the Union Budget 2016-17 in the Parliament, Jaitley said the government was committed to achieve the target of 100 percent village electrification by May 2018.


"The government is committed to achieve 100 percent village electrification by 1st May, 2018," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also asked the Power Ministry to target electrification of around 200 villages every week by holding regular follow ups with the state implementing agencies.
