Tumkur, Oct 02: India's Harsh Mankad advanced to the pre-quarter-finals of the USD 25000 ATP Challenger Series here yesterday with a comfortable 6-4 6-3 win over compatriot Karan Rastogi.
It was smooth sailing for Mankad, the world number 372, as wild-card entrant Rastogi failed to go the extra mile at the new courts.
On a mixed day for the host nation yesterday,another wild card entrant, Somdev Dev Varman, bowed out in the first round, losing 4-6 4-6 to Italy's Leonardo Azzaro.
Meanwhile, top seed and world number 195, Michal Mertinak of Slovakia began his campaign in style, drubbing France's Laurent Recouderc 6-2 6-3.
Mertinak was joined in the last 16 by second seeded Rik De Voest of South Africa, Italy's Francesco Aldi and qualifier Lee Childs (Britain).



De Voest eliminated Britain's James Auckland 6-1 6-4, Aldi sidelined Britain's Alex Bogdanovic 6-4 6-2, while Childs prevailed over Ti Chen of Taipei 6-2 7-5.
