New Delhi, June 11: National Human Rights Commission has sought report from Kanpur police and Railway Police Force, Delhi within 72 hours over a complaint by a Malaysian citizen alleging police "apathy" in tracing her father who went missing from a train in Uttar Pradesh. NHRC, which received a complaint by one Shyama Nair saying her father disappeared from a train near Etawah in UP while travelling to Delhi from Varanasi with the family, issued a notice to the Inspector General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police, Kanpur and IG, RPF seeking their comments on the incident.
The complainant alleged though a complaint was lodged at the railway police station in Delhi and in Kanpur, "no action" was taken by the police. They even refused to accept a photograph of the victim which could help in searching him, the complaint said.
She said a report was also lodged at the Malaysian embassy which expressed its "inability" vis-a-vis extending help.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the commission has asked the concerned police officials to inform it about the steps that have been taken to locate M M Narayanan Nair and whether search for him has been made in hospitals/nursing homes at Kanpur. Bureau Report
