Customs superintendent goes missing in Meghalaya
Shillong, Oct 11: The head of Meghalaya`s Borsora land customs station in West Khasi Hills district, L H Faihriem, went missing somewhere near the Indo-Bangladesh Border, a senior official said here today.
Shillong, Oct 11: The head of Meghalaya's Borsora land customs station in West Khasi Hills district, L H Faihriem, went missing somewhere near the Indo-Bangladesh Border, a senior official said here today.
The Additional Commissioner of Customs (preventive) unit of the north-eastern region, G Panmei, told news agencies here that Faihriem, the superintendent of Borsora LCS, was missing since October 9 from Larghat near the border.
He said that he was awaiting confirmation from the Borsora LCS about the incident.
Asked if he suspected the hands of any militant group, Panmei said, ''we cannot say at this stage. Even the police and BSF also cannot say who are behind this and how this happened”.
This occurred in the backdrop of kidnapping of Deepak Mahanta, inspector of Meghalaya's Ghasuapara LCS in South Garo Hills district along with six others by suspected militants of national democratic front of Bodoland and Achik National Volunteers Council Militants on February 28 last.
He said that he was awaiting confirmation from the Borsora LCS about the incident.
