Got fake currency notes from ATM? Here is what you should do

New Delhi: Very often we come across complaints about ATM disbursing fake currency notes. In addition, there are instances when torn notes make most of the cash withdrawn from the machine. Whosoever gets caught in such a situation faces lots of hassles.

Here we will let you know what to do in such circumstances

1) Record the details

In case, you turn out to be that unlucky fellow, make sure that you bring this issue in knowledge of the guard posted there. You must ask him about the whereabouts of register where you can record the number of faulty currency notes, transaction ID, date and timings of the transaction. You must not forget to ask the ATM guard to sign the complaint. Also, you must take a snapshot of the written complaint on your mobile phone. You should also submit a fresh complaint with the concerned bank (where ATM machine belongs).

2) Bank investigation

A scanner is installed in every bank, as per RBI guidelines, which tests the authenticity of the currency note in question. In case, it's found to be fake, bank destroys it and compensates you with a fresh one.

3) Approach Banking Lokpal

In case the concerned bank doesn't entertain your genuine complaint, you are always free to approach the RBI appointed Banking Lokpal for the same.

4) Register FIR with police

Possession or use of fake currency notes is a crime and hence, you should always file an FIR with the police if such an incident happens.
