Kolkata, May 28: Aftab Ansari, the main accused in the American Center shootout in January 2002, would move the Calcutta High Court against a prosecution plea for recross-examination of key witness Ali Reza Khan, Ansari's counsel told a special court today. Judge P L Dutta, over a prosecution petition for cross-examination of key witness Ali Reza Khan, brother of another accused Asif Reza Khan who had died in an encounter in Gujarat, said that it could be taken up after July 23, by which time the defence counsel should get a specific order from the Calcutta High Court.
The judge first allowed the recross-examination plea by prosecution counsel Ashok Bakshi, but defence counsel Syed Imam submitted that they would prefer a revision in the high court in this issue and pleaded for keeping the order allowing recross-examination in abeyance.
On May 22, Khan had deposed as prosecution witness. But during examination, Ali was declared hostile.
The next day, while he was cross-examined by defence counsel, prosecution lawyers pointed out that some new information had come up during the cross-examination and prayed for recross-examination. But the defence counsel filed an application stating that they would move the high court against today's order.
During the day's proceedings, two staff members of the state-run SSKM hospital deposed before the court.
The two employees, belonging to the medical record department of the hospital, identified the bed tickets and other hospital documents of 10 injured policemen in the shooting on January 22, 2002.
