New Delhi: Projecting India as a larger market than the US for Google by 2016, the internet giant's Indian-origin CEO Sundar Pichai during his two-day visit said that doing business has improved here but should "get a whole lot better".

On his first visit to India after taking over as CEO of US-based Google in August, he said that India will be a larger market for Google than the US next year.

India taking a lead in developing products for the world are clear from two made in India Google products:


  1. The India-born Mapmaker, a feature that allows users to suggest changes on Maps.
  2. Youtube Offline that allows users to download and watch videos later, has also been developed in India.

Other highlights of Google's expansion are:


1. 100 railway stations to have wi-fi by December 2016 in partnership with Railtel.


2. Mumbai Central to go live by January.


3. Google will build new campus, ramp up engineering presence in Hyderabad to make products for India


4. Google will up hiring in Bengaluru.


5. Google will help women from three lakh villages across India to get online in three years.


6. The company is expanding bicycle for women programme nationally.


7. In the first quarter of 2016, Google will release a feature called 'Tap to Translate' that allows the instant translation of any text on the Android phones.


8. Google announced a programme to train two million new Android developers over the next three years by working closely with more than 30 universities across country in partnership with National Skill Development Corporation.
