Guwahati, July 15: Over 35 lakh flood-hit people appeared to have no respite from the month-long devastating deluge in Assam with River Brahmaputra and its tributaries
continuing to be fed with rain waters flooding human habitation and cropland in 21 of the 23 districts.
Official reports here today said the worst affected were
the agriculturists with nearly two lakh hectares under water
and the standing crops there such as rice damaged causing
major economic loss to the farmers.
Meanwhile, the army was assisting the district administrations in rescuing the marooned people to safer areas and relief centres opened across the state.
Though the rivers in some places were showing receding trends, the sources said, the flood situation continued to remain grave with the Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger mark in most of the affected 21 districts.
