Thimpu, Sept 02: Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Tyronne Fernando cut short his visit to Bhutan today to return home for an emergency cabinet meeting, Sri Lankan officials here said.
The minister was summoned home for a special session of the cabinet tomorrow amid a deepening cohabitation crisis with president Chandrika Kumaratunga, said Fernando's Secretary Ranga Kalansooriya.
"The minister has to be in Colombo for the urgent cabinet meeting, but he is leaving behind the cricket coach to continue their program," Kalansooriya said.
Fernando travelled to Bhutan on Thursday to start the country's first professional cricket coaching session with the help of star Sri Lankan test player Roshan Mahanama, a member of the 1996 world-cup winning team, and cricket administrator Jayantha Paranatala.

Fernando, a former head of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, was recalled as the government of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was headed for a showdown with president Chandrika Kumaratunga.
The cabinet is due tomorrow to discuss controversial plans to clip Kumaratunga's powers to sack parliament.
