Begusarai, Aug 10: Bihar Director General of Police D P Ojha today said the state police could not take action against a ruling party leader wanted in connection with several criminal cases due to political pressure and regretted that everybody was not equal before law in the state. Without naming controversial RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, against whom the DGP has issued arrest orders in four cases, he said, "There is a big leader in the ruling party under whose patronage more than 500 criminals in and outside the state are working. He has more than 100 AK 47 rifles and owns property worth more than Rs 100 crore in the country and outside."
"Under pressure from the power, the police do not dare to take action against him," the DGP said and appealed to the people that the situation could be improved only through a people's movement.
"The phrase everybody is equal before the law exists only in books and in practical life people sitting on high posts and their families enjoy special privilege. While a common man is easily caught in a crime, the bigger ones go scot-free," Ojha said addressing a police-public cooperation meet here.
Deputy Speaker of Bihar assembly Bhola Prasad Singh called upon the people to launch a mass movement to fight crime in the state.
