New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has recovered a record property tax collection of over Rs 290 crore during the current financial year so far, the highest figure in the last five years.

"NMDC has recovered a record collection of Rs 295.29 crore as Property Tax during the first six month of financial year 2015-16. This collection is the highest in the last five years," NDMC spokesperson Jagjivan Bakshi said.


The amount collected is five times higher than the collection last year during the same period.


"While the amount collected last year till September 30 was Rs 59.85 crore, in 2013-14 the collection was Rs 28.66 crore," Bakshi said adding, the property tax collection during the same period in 2012-2013 and 2011-2012 was Rs 154.04 crore and Rs 12.29 crore respectively.


The number of tax payers in the last year have also increased from 673 to 7306.


"NDMC had organized collection camps in association with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) of Jor Bagh, Golf Link, Khan Market, Bengali Market and BK Dutt Colony for tax collection," the spokesperson said.
