Mumbai, Nov 25: About 74,000 lawyers all over Maharashtra, Goa, Daman, Diu and Dadranagar Haveli today wore red badges as mark of protest to register their concern over increase in working hours, change in timings and rise in court fees.
The protest day was observed in response to a call given by the state bar council.

Chairman of the bar council Vijay Sakolkar met the Chief Justice of Mumbai High Court, C K Thakker, on November 17 and apprised him of the lawyers' demands. The Chief Justice has assured to consider them, bar council sources said. In Mumbai, about 15,000 lawyers joined the protest. The court timings have been increased by an hour. Accordingly, the courts now function between 10.30 am to 5.30 pm with half an hour lunch recess.
