After winning the toss, Sydney thunder decided to ball against the Renegades. Riding on skipper Aaron Finch's 37-ball 63, Renegades scored 179. Finch was supported by cameos from Callum Ferguson (38) and Dwayne Bravo (24).

Thunders' response started on a shaky note losing two wickets in quick succession. The visitors were 5 for 2 inside two overs. But a 70-run partnership between Ryan Gibson and skipper ben Rohrer steadied the innings, or it looked like.

But once Gibson (39) got out in the 12th over on the score of 77, it seemed all over for Renegades as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at one stage they were 96 for 6, needing another 84 runs of just 25 balls.

As a result, in search of quick runs, they lost all their wickets and were all out for 130 runs in 19.1 overs.

For the home side, Brad Hogg, Sunil Narine, Bravo took two wickets each.
