Overs 56 | Score 202/2 | Karunaratne 87 (189) ; Pushpakumara 0 (1)

Brilliant piece of batting by both Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis as Lanka looked to rebuild hope with the latter notching up his third Test century. But his brlliancy was brought down with a brilliant delivery by Pandya and a brilliant piece of catching by Wriddhiman Saha. Pushpakumara walked in next as the night watchman.

Overs 28 | Score 118/1 | Karunaratne 55 (97) ; Mendis 61 (68)

118 runs in the second session with just one wicket down. Excellent from the Lankans. Great amount of determination put forth by the two batsmen. They have taken the hosts past the 100-run mark as a rather confident Lankan side head in for tea break.

Overs 20 | Score 84/1 | Karunaratne 40 (66) ; Mendis 42 (45)

Karunaratne and Mendis look to take things under control. They are well past the 50-run mark as far as their partnership is concerned. If they can carry on this partnership for lomger it can put pressure on the Indians, although not by much owing to the follow on aspect. Mendis apparently smashed four boundaries to Jadeja in the 20th over and the spinner didn't look happy at all.

Overs 10 | Score 36/1 | Karunaratne 23 (37) ; Mendis 10 (14)

Staring at a huge target, openers Karunaratne and Tharanga stepped in, but the latter once again fell cheaply after Virat enforced a follow on. Kushal Mendies walked in next. Sri Lanka still trail by 404 runs.

Overs 40 | Score 150/6 | Dilruwan 9 (13) ; Dickwella 50 (44)

A quick 50-run stand put forth by Mendis and Dickwella, but the former departed soon after. De Silva too failed to make an impression as Jadeja dismissed him for a duck, thus claiming his 150th Test wicket. Dickwella notches up his fifty.

Overs 30 | Score 85/4 | Mathews 10 (18) ; Dickwella 15 (13)

Kushal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal started off with the Lankan proceedings, but failed right from the start. First, it was Chandinal who departed, falling victim to Ravindra Jadeja. And then Mendis falling to Umesh Yadav. Angelo Mathews and Niroshan Dickwella are the two batsmen at the crease. Lankans need to hold on strong as it seems that they are inching closer to yet another follow up. Still trailing by 537 runs.

New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets to push Sri Lanka on the back foot soon after Team India skipper Virat Kohli declared the visitor's first innings on 622/2 on day two of the second Test in Colombo on Friday.

At the end of day two the hosts were 50/2.

Ashwin broke through in the second over of the innings when he had Upul Tharanga caught by Lokesh Rahul with the team yet to score. Dimuth Karunaratne showed promise, scoring 25 runs before Ajinkya Rahane took a low catch at slip to dismiss him off Ashwin.

Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal were batting at the close.

Ashwin had two for 38 in 10 overs.
