WATCH: Shreyas Iyer goes one-to-one with Ben Stokes in a fight for fielding laurels
The fielding highlights of the match were those of Stokes` catch and Iyer`s stop at boundary.
New Delhi: The Delhi Daredevils-Rising Pune Supergiant match of IPL 2017 on Friday witnessed some of the best fielding efforts in the tournament.
There was one Ben Stokes direct hit to dismiss Sanju Samson, then the Pune all-rounder produced a stunning hokey-pokey catch to dismiss Mohammed Shami. For Delhi, Shreyas Iyer and Shami produced brilliant efforts.
But the fielding highlights of the match were those of Stokes' catch and Iyer's stop at boundary.
Shami hit the penultimate ball of Delhi innings bowled by Jaydev Unadkat, and it was destined to sail over deep midwicket boundary. Yes, it did sail over, but only to see a flying Stokes pulling off a stunning catch.
Here's the video:
Compare it to that of Iyer's effort, to deny Steve Smith a sure six off the last ball of the third over, bowled by Zaheer Khan. It will go down as a dropped catch, but the effort Iyer put in that fielding was just brilliant. He took a giant leap in the air, and stopped the ball from going for a six, and made it a single.
Here's the video:
Then, there was MS Dhoni run out. A rare sight. Shami produced a direct hit at the non-striker's end even as a diving Dhoni failed to reach home in time.
