Salute to Mandeep Singh: Virender Sehwag requests all Indians to light lamps for martyrs
Mandeep had died in an terror attack in Machil sector, near the Line of Control, on Friday.
New Delhi: Former India opener Virender Sehwag on Sunday paid rich tributes to martyred soldier Mandeep Singh and requested all Indians to light a lamp today for our bravehearts who 'who selflessly serve' the country.
"Shat Shat Naman to Martyr Mandeep Singh. Pls do light a lamp for our martyrs today. Least we can do for men who selflessly serve our country," Sehwag wrote in a Twitter post.
Even as India celebrates Diwali, the festival of light and victory over evil, a family in Haryana's Antahedi village mourns the loss of a brave son.
Mandeep had died in an terror attack in Machil sector, near the Line of Control, on Friday. The terrorists had mutilated his body before crossing into Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir.
The 27-year-old was posted with the 17 Sikh Light Infantry, and his Diwali leaves were cancelled as the tension escalated after the Uri terror attack. His mortal remains reached Antahedi this morning.
Son of a truck driver, Mandeep had joined the Army in 2009. He is survived by his young wife Prerna, who serves as a Head Constable with Haryana Police. They had got married in 2014.
After Mandeep's family demanded that the Indian Army should give a befitting reply to Pakistan, the armed forces hit back and destroyed at least four Pakistani border posts in a late night massive fire assault on Saturday.
The posts were destroyed in a massive fire assault in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, the army's Northern Command said.
