34 AAP MLAs want to see Kumar Vishwas, not Arvind Kejriwal, as Delhi CM?
AAP leader Kumar Vishwas on Friday said the party was open to taking a call on a change in the leadership because blaming the EVMs entirely for its poll defeats was wrong.
New Delhi: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman Tajinder Pal S Bagga on Saturday claimed that 34 MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party want Kumar Vishwas to be appointed as new Chief Minister.
Bagga had earlier this week alleged that 34 AAP MLAs want Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's resignation in case the party loses MCD elections. Three days after the Aam Aadmi Party's humiliating defeat in the Delhi civic polls, the BJP leader tweeted that he has heard that 34 AAP MLAs want to see Dr Kumar Vishwas as the new CM.
On Friday, AAP leader Kumar Vishwas had said that the party was open to taking a call on a change in the leadership because blaming the EVMs entirely for its poll defeats was wrong when "there is mistrust among people for us".
Speaking to IndiaToday TV, Vishwas, considered close to Chief Minister and party founder Arvind Kejriwal, said the Aam Aadmi Party needed to "introspect" over its defeat in the April 23 Delhi municipal polls.
"I am pained because it is our sixth continuous defeat. It is certain that people did not vote for us in the civic polls. There is mistrust for us among people," the TV news channel quoted him as saying.
"Blaming EVMs is not good. It can be a factor, which can be raised and discussed, but we failed to reach out to the voters. The party should introspect the reasons for the loss."
Earlier today, Kejriwal accepted that he has made "mistakes" and said the party will introspect and "course correct".
"In the last two days, I spoke to many volunteers and voters. The reality is obvious. Yes, we made mistakes but we will introspect and course correct," Kejriwal tweeted.
This is what Bagga tweeted today:
The BJP on Wednesday swept all the three municipal bodies of Delhi, returning a tally of 181 of the total 270 seats. AAP managed 48 and Congress 30 wards.
The AAP's defeat comes more than two years after the Delhi Assembly Elections when it had humbled the BJP, winning 67 of the 70 seats.
