New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi has sought a detailed report from three BJP-ruled civic bodies over the ongoing anti-encroachment drive carried out in the national capital since April 1, said ANI.
The development comes amid a widespread outrage in Delhi over the recent bulldozer actions by the municipal corporation in several parts of the national capital.
The demolition drive by the BJP-run civic authorities in several areas of the national capital has met severe protests and triggered a political slugfest and sparked a war of words between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP.
CM Arvind Kejriwal had said the anti-encroachment drive in Delhi will leave 63 lakh people homeless, adding that if continued it will be the "biggest destruction" in Independent India.
"Delhi has not developed as a planned city. More than 80 per cent of Delhi can be called "illegal and encroached upon." Does that mean you will destroy 80 per cent of Delhi?" Kejriwal asked.
The Delhi Chief Minister also questioned what he called the moral, constitutional and legal authority of the BJP-ruled civic bodies to launch such a large-scale drive at the fag-end of their terms.
During a recent meeting with the AAP MLAs, the Chief Minister told them that they should be ready to go to jail for opposing the anti-encroachment drive.
