It is interesting to note that Tiwari, who represents Delhi's northeast parliamentary constituency, had contested the national election from Uttar Pradesh as a Samajwadi Party candidate in 2009.

At that time, the Bhojpuri actor was pitted against none other than Bharatiya Janata Party's firebrand leader Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur. However, Tiwari lost the election.

Notably, Gorakhpur is the constituency Yogi Adityanath, who is now UP CM, has represented for last five terms as a Member of Parliament.

Tiwari, who hails from Bihar, joined BJP in October 2013 and was appointed Delhi chief by Bharatiya Janata Party's president Amit Shah in December last year -- only months before the civic polls.

Delhi MCD election result has seen the Aam Aadmi Party finishing a distant second and the Congress third.
